The quick verdict
Quantum Fiber has the strongest technology where it is built, Cox has the widest wired coverage, and Starlink reaches homes that have no line to the street. Lumen announced in February 2026 that its consumer fiber business, Quantum Fiber included, was sold to AT&T.
- Quantum Fiber first wherever it reaches your address
- Cox as the practical choice in more neighborhoods
- Starlink as the fallback for rural or hard-to-wire homes
- Lowest latency: Quantum Fiber, then Cox
- Only an address-specific quote confirms the real price
Side by side
| Cox | Quantum Fiber | Starlink | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connection | Cable, some fiber | Fiber to the home | Low Earth orbit satellite |
| Availability | Broad across Las Vegas and Henderson | Depends on the neighborhood | Broad, with site needs |
| Upload | Usually below download | Can match download | Variable |
| Latency | Fine for gaming and calls | Generally lowest | Higher and more variable |
| Equipment | Modem or gateway | Fiber terminal plus router | Dish, router and mount |
| Best for | Widely available wired service | Upload-heavy households | Homes without wired service |
A past CenturyLink line or an existing coax outlet doesn't prove a home can get service today, and advertised maximums aren't guarantees.
Availability and installation
Options can differ from one street to the next, and apartments, gated communities and new subdivisions may differ again. Use the full address and unit number, not just the ZIP code. Starlink needs an unobstructed view of the sky, a stable mount, safe cable routing and power.
Cost, speed and everyday use
Compare first-year and ongoing totals: when the promotion ends, taxes, activation, installation and equipment. Quantum Fiber is often the clearest value, because strong uploads spare you from buying a bigger download tier than you need. Starlink's hardware raises the first-year cost.
All three can stream 4K and handle video calls with a good home network. Quantum Fiber suits gamers, creators and remote workers best; Cox handles multi-TV family homes well; Starlink works for streaming and everyday work but is less predictable for competitive gaming and heavy uploads.
When to choose each
- Quantum Fiber if it serves your full address, uploads matter, someone games or streams, or its total cost compares well
- Cox if fiber isn't available, you need service on a practical timeline or coax is already in place
- Starlink if wired options fall short, the home is at the valley edge and the sky view is clear
Check all three with your exact address, then coordinate installation with NV Energy, Southwest Gas, water and trash on your move-in checklist.
